Mr. Kasey Wasson is a string educator, orchestra director, and professional cellist. A native of Lee’s Summit, MO, he began playing cello at age eight. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis in instrumental music from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, where he also student-taught and directed within the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District.

He went on to receive his Master of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, serving as a teaching assistant under Janet Jensen in the music education department. There, he taught string pedagogy courses, conducted the All-University String Orchestra, and coached chamber ensembles for non-music majors. His principal cello teachers include Michael Bersin and Parry Karp.

Before returning to Kansas City, Mr. Wasson taught and performed across several states, including Wisconsin, Alabama, and Indiana. In northern Alabama, he taught 5th–12th grade string orchestra, served as an adjunct cello instructor, and performed as Principal Cellist of the Shoals Symphony. These roles allowed him to bridge secondary and collegiate music experiences, connecting students to higher education and professional performance opportunities. While teaching in Indiana, his students adapted to the pandemic by organizing virtual concerts. When in-person events resumed, they consistently earned Gold ratings in district and state competitions across string and full orchestras, solos, and ensemble categories.

Currently, Mr. Wasson directs middle and high school orchestras in Kansas City, Missouri. Each year, his students continue to grow and exceed expectations, showcasing their talents through orchestra performances, solo and small ensemble festivals, community events, and advanced musical opportunities. Whether participating in youth symphonies, solo competitions, composing, teaching, or simply playing for enjoyment, students explore musical paths that often lead to college experiences and future careers.

As a performer, Mr. Wasson is active in solo, ensemble, and concert hall settings. He is a core member of the Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra, where he performs alongside talented musicians and music educators from the Kansas City area. He previously served as Principal Cellist of the Shoals Symphony in Alabama and has performed with dance companies, jazz and bluegrass festivals, and classical solo and chamber concerts. Mr. Wasson always strives for the “next level” of musicianship and encourages others to journey with him.

He firmly believes that great teaching begins with great musicianship—anchored in skill, kindness, thoughtfulness, and a genuine desire to uplift others. The most inspiring musicians he’s encountered have not only demonstrated technical excellence but also exemplified deep humanity. Mr. Wasson continually seeks to grow, both as a musician and an educator, bringing those same qualities to his students, his colleagues, and his community.
